HM Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal

This gilt bronze medal is one of a limited number issued by the City of Caulfield to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II which took place in London on 2 June 1953. A similar medal can be found in the Museum Victoria collection.

The front (obverse) of the medal shows the profile of Her Majesty the Queen and the inscription around the edge of the medal reads — ELIZABETH II 2ND JUNE 1953. The word AMOR appears near Her Majesty’s shoulder. This refers to W J Amor (Mint), the renowned medal making firm based in Sydney, New South Wales.

The back (reverse) of the medal shows the (unofficial) City of Caulfield Coat of Arms (replaced in 1977 by the official Coat of Arms). The inscription around the edge of the medal reads —City of Caulfield Victoria.
