Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

Glen Eira Libraries supports the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge which encourages children to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Children who meet their reading targets receive a certificate signed by the Victorian Premier and former premiers.

The popular program, open to Victorians from birth to Year 10, attracts 1000 schools and 300 early childhood services annually. Since the Challenge began 13 years ago, more than 2.2 million students have turned the pages of nearly 42 million books.

Regular reading from an early age is vital for success at school and has lifelong benefits. The Challenge encourages children to read more and promotes a love of reading, supporting the Education State target to have more students reaching the highest levels of achievement in reading.

Books are added to the reading lists regularly by an expert panel which includes teachers and librarians.

You should be able  to find many suitable books in your school, at home and at Glen Eira Libraries. Books not listed on the Challenge book list can also be added as personal choice books.
