We are now transitioning to our new home at Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub, opening on Wednesday 26 October with our family-friendly Open Day. Services will still be available at Caulfield, Elsternwick and Carnegie libraries - as well as online. You can also return your books to any of these branches while we are moving. Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub

Welcome to your one-stop shop for all news relating to the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub.

After an 18-month construction period, the new Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub will open on Wednesday 26 October with our family-friendly Open Day. We are so excited to open the doors to this new integrated and accessible library and community facility.

McKinnon Library pop-up will close on Tuesday 27 September as we prepare to move home to Bentleigh. Services will still be available at Caulfield, Elsternwick and Carnegie libraries as well as online. Check out our full FAQ below and follow us on social media for updates. Is McKinnon Library now closed?

McKinnon Library Pop-Up is now closed as we transition to our new home at Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub. 

Services and returns chutes are available at Caulfield, Elsternwick and Carnegie Libraries during the transition. 

When will the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub open?

Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub will open on Wednesday 26 October.

 

Is there going to be an opening event?

Absolutely - we can't wait! 

Starting from 10am, there will be a full day of activities — including hub tours, demonstrations, arts and craft and live music.

What is happening with Youth Services?

The new facility at Bentleigh will offer integrated library and youth services. 

Youth Services will continue to run community programs at the McKinnon site until Wednesday 19 October.

Youth Worker support will be available by appointment only during this time.

What will the new opening hours at Bentleigh be?

Bentleigh Library will be open later in the evenings:

Monday to Thursday: 10am–9pm

Friday: 10am–6pm

Saturday: 10am–4pm

Sunday: 12pm–5pm

Will the returns chute be available at McKinnon after the library closes?

No. When the library closes at 8pm on Tuesday 27 September, the returns chute will be closed.

Returns chutes will be open at Carnegie, Caulfield and Elsternwick branches.

What if I can’t return my items to McKinnon before the library closes?

Any items borrowed from McKinnon Library can be renewed unless they are reserved. You can renew via the library website or the library app, in person at a branch or by phoning 9524 3700).

You can also return your items to Carnegie, Caulfield or Elsternwick libraries.

What will happen to my reserved items at McKinnon?

You will be contacted by a library staff member and have the option to collect your reservations from one of our other branches, or from Bentleigh Library after it opens.

How can I borrow items after McKinnon is closed and before Bentleigh is open?

You can use any of our other branches — Caulfield, Carnegie and Elsternwick libraries —or check out our great range of online products

Will there still be a library at the McKinnon site?

No, all library services will move back to the Bentleigh site.

Council is working with the State Government on the future of the site.

Will BabyTime, StoryTime and other programs continue at Bentleigh?

Absolutely!

The larger and more flexible spaces at Bentleigh Library will allow us to offer more programs than we could at McKinnon Library.

Keep an eye on the library website for more information.

Will the same collections be available at McKinnon Library?

The collections will include items from McKinnon Library, items that have been in storage, and more than 10,000 new items.

 

Will there be an e-Waste station at Bentleigh Library?

There won’t be an e-Waste station at Bentleigh Library, but you can still dispose of your unwanted e-waste at Caulfield, Elsternwick and Carnegie libraries.
