Notice of closure

As per the Premier’s announcement on Sunday 2 August, we have been directed to move to Stage 4 restrictions. 

Glen Eira Libraries are closed until health restrictions are lifted. Returns chutes will be closed. No new reservations for physical items may be placed. Due dates have been  extended until 30 September. No late fees will be charged. Find out more on our FAQs page.

Closure of libraries and FAQs

The closure of our libraries has been made in accordance with the Victorian Government’s shutdown of all non-essential activity across our state to combat the spread of COVID-19.


Will the returns chutes still be open?

No, the chutes are closed. Please keep your library items at home until further notice. No late fees will be charged. 

Will you still answer the phones?

From 1 April, phones will not be answered, however if you have questions not answered here, please email us at

Will I be charged late fees while the libraries are closed or if I am self-isolating?

No, late fees will not be charged while we are closed. In any case, if you are self-isolating or unable to leave your home because you or a family member is unwell, any late fees you incur will be waived.

If you are closed, what will happen to my reserved items?

All reserved items will be held until the library reopens, regardless of the length of the closure.

What can I read if the library is closed?

Make use of our free e-books, movies, digital magazines, e-audio books, music and e-newspapers — available online 24/7.
