Gabrielle Chanel: a life in fashion

Of all the haute couturiers, few have made their mark as indelibly as Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel or can truly claim to have changed the way we dress today.

Inspired by French fishermen and English aristocrats, Chanel introduced chic and practical styles that were quite unlike the opulent ladies’ fashions of the early 20th century. Turning her hand to accessories and perfumes, she found more success.  Chanel’s impact on 20th century fashion is a legacy that is just as relevant today as it was in the ‘20s, ‘60s or ‘80s.

Join author and fashion historian, Nicole Jenkins for an illustrated look at the life and designs of this iconic fashion designer, who will shortly be featured in a new exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.
