Dr Amanda Laugesen in conversation with David Astle.
There are plenty of words to choose from to tell the story of Australia – from iconic Australianisms like mateship, fair dinkum, and bogan to drop bears, budgie smugglers, and bin chickens. Words underpin myths and stereotypes of Australian identity; they have also obscured harsh realities and inequalities.
Grab a cuppa and join us for a linguistic feast with historian, lexicographer and Director of the Australian Dictionary Centre (ANU), Dr Amanda Laugesen, for a chat about her new book, Australia in 100 Words. In conversation with radio host, writer, crossword maker, and dictionary enthusiast, David Astle.
Suitable for adults. Free event. Registrations required via Zoom.
A Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration.
