Science Week Crafternoon

Ages: Suitable for ages 3 and up.
Head along to Elsternwick Library for a Crafternoon with a difference! Learn about the magic of some of nature’s tiniest creatures and even make your own minibeast peg to take home. Did you know? A minibeast is a small creature like an insect, spider, worm, or snail. They are tiny animals with no bones inside their bodies. You can often find minibeasts in the garden, under rocks, or in the grass.
Wait times may apply. Parental or caregiver supervision required for children under 12.

STEAM afternoons

Location: Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub
Cost: FREE—No bookings required.
Ages: Suitable for ages 5 and up.
Join us every night after school during Science Week as we build our own biosphere and mini-garden! What’s a biosphere? If you think of Earth as a big playground, the biosphere is the part of that playground where all living things, like plants, animals, and even you, live and interact. It's the place where life happens!

Science Week Storytime
Wednesday 13 August
Time: 2pm
Location: Caulfield Library
Cost: FREE—No bookings required.
Ages: Suitable for ages 3 and up.
Calling on nature lovers! Join us for an extra special Storytime where we will read all about ants and even get to see a real colony up close! We all know some ant species are invasive, but there are also many types that play a super important role in soil health, natural pest control, pollination and nutrient recycling.

Butterfly gazebo
Saturday 16 August
Time: 11am—3pm
Location: Carnegie Library and Community Centre
Cost: FREE—No bookings required.
Ages: Suitable for ages 5 and up.
Celebrate the magic and wonder of butterflies this Science Week! Tip toe into the gazebo and watch in awe as butterflies flutter past you, landing on flowers – and maybe even on you! Learn more about these incredible creatures and their importance to a healthy ecosystem.
