Bentleigh Library

Bentleigh Library features light-filled spaces to read, and free Wi-Fi and internet use. We're easily accessible by public transport - close to Centre Road shopping and Bentleigh train station.

Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub development

Bentleigh Library will close on Sunday 7 March 2021 to relocate services during construction of the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub.

McKinnon Library and Youth Services: From Monday 29 March 2021, the community can access library and youth services at our temporary location at 169A McKinnon Road, McKinnon (next to McKinnon Station). Library services will be unavailable for three weeks while we make the move from Bentleigh to McKinnon.

When with the McKinnon Library and Youth Services pop-up open?

McKinnon Library and Youth Services pop-up will open on Monday 29 March.

Why the delay?

We need time to relocate materials from Bentleigh Library and set everything up at McKinnon.

Where will the McKinnon Library and Youth Services pop-up be located?

At 169A McKinnon Road, next to the McKinnon station. It’s one train station from Bentleigh; a 20-minute walk or 4-minute drive from Bentleigh Library.

What if I can’t collect my reservations from Bentleigh Library before 7 March? 

All uncollected reservations will be redirected to Carnegie Library for collection. If you can’t collect from Carnegie Library, you can nominate another pickup location or wait until McKinnon Library opens.

Will the returns chutes at Bentleigh Library be available after 7 March? 

No, they will be closed. Please return your items to another branch or hold them until McKinnon Library opens – no overdue charges apply.

Can I return items to McKinnon Library before 29 March?

No, the chutes will not be available. Please return your items to another branch or hold them until McKinnon Library opens – no overdue charges apply.

What will the library opening hours be at McKinnon?

Monday to Thursday 8.30am-7.00pm; Friday 8.30am-6pm; Saturday 10am-4pm; Sunday 12pm-5pm. These hours will be trialed, and reviewed after we open. 


What collections/services will be available at McKinnon Library?

You can enjoy your favourite collections including a large fiction collection, a variety of children’s books, new DVDs and current magazines. Public PCs, wi-fi, study area, lounge seating, and printing/copying facilities will also be available. If you can’t find what you need, library staff will be happy to bring it over from another library at no charge. Members are invited to also use our libraries at Carnegie, Caulfield and Elsternwick.

What about Youth Services?

Council's Youth Services will also be located at this facility, providing access to programs, information, referrals, one-to-one support with youth workers and youth leadership training for young people aged 10 to 25 years.

Will there be Storytime and/or BabyTime sessions at McKinnon? 

Yes, from Term 2 they will be introduced once government health restrictions allow us to safely offer these and other programs. 

Where can I park?

There is limited parking on McKinnon Road but there is plenty of on-street parking available in surrounding streets.
