The Jungle Book with Hila Tells Stories

Are you ready for an adventure? Meet Mowgli, a fearless jungle kid who grew up with wolves as his family. But one day, he had to leave the jungle because a fierce tiger named Shere Khan wanted to catch him. Can Mowgli escape?

Come along with this interactive adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s iconic story by Hila Tells Stories. Through music and imagination, we’ll explore the jungle, meet fantastic animals, and learn about the importance of friendships.

Fairytale Cookbook

Monday 29 June

Location: Glen Eira Town Hall - Theatrette
Cost: $15 full; $10 concession. Bookings required.
Ages: Suitable for ages 5 and up. 

Join the improvisation wizards from Impro Melbourne as they cook up a brand-new adventure using your ideas! Open the Fairytale Cookbook, choose your ingredients, and let them whip you up an improvised fairytale as you’ve never seen before. Start with a hero, add a splash of Pirate King, or spice it up with a witch... the choice is yours!

This joyful interactive show bursts with imagination, silly surprises, and big laughs that will delight kids and grown-ups alike.

Talk to the Animals

Have you ever wondered what animals really think? Let’s visit Chatterbox Zoo to find out! 

You’ll meet talkative tigers, chatty cheetahs and gossipy grizzly bears! Head along to this ROAR-some show where we’ll learn amazing facts about animals – and importantly, how to care for them.

Storytime Takeover: Feathered Folktales

Ages: Suitable for ages 3 and up with caregiver supervision

Take flight into a world of feathers, flight and folktales with storyteller Dee Palanisamy.

Through lively tales of owls, crows, sparrows, and parrots, audiences of all ages are invited to flap wings, mimic bird calls, and join in playful, interactive storytelling.  

Using puppets, kamishibai theatre and musical instruments, Dee weaves stories of courage, kindness and connection to nature into a joyful and sound-filled experience. 


 

Multilingual Storytelling Showcase

Thursday 2 July

Time: 11am—12pm 
Location: Carnegie Library and Community Centre
Cost: $7 per child; adults free. Bookings essential.

Ages: Suitable for all ages with caregiver supervision for children under 12.

Join Rohini Vij, Leticia, Priti Modyiyer and Dee Palanisamy as they share fun, engaging tales filled with rhythm and movement. The folktales told in Hindi, Tamil and Portuguese come to life through the voices of four vibrant oral storytellers from Naarm/Melbourne.  Journey across cultures and traditions as stories of clever characters, brave heroes and playful adventures unfold.

Stay on after the session for a storytelling-inspired craft activity, where children can create their own take-home keepsake.

Buckle up for a high-speed adventure as Edda chases her dream of becoming a Grand Prix driver. When her racing hero can’t compete, she secretly takes his place, racing for victory, his championship title, and prize money that could save her family’s amusement park. A heart-racing film celebrating courage and determination.

Rated PG. Run time: 98 minutes. Recommended for ages 5 and up with parental guidance. Contains mild violence and some scary scenes. 


 

Movie and Maker: Zog and the Flying Doctors

Soar into adventure with a special screening of this beloved classic, as Zog, Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout travel far and wide, helping creatures in need and proving that kindness makes the very best medicine. After the screening, stay on for a Zog-inspired craft activity.

Library After Dark: Into the Wild

Monday 6 July

Library After Dark returns—step into the wild for an unforgettable after-hours adventure!

Families are invited to celebrate the animal kingdom through hands on activities inspired by creatures of the savannah and beyond. Discover fun things to make and do as you explore themed stations around the library. 

Dress as your favourite animal, explorer or wild creature and join us for a night of discovery and roaring good fun in a a magical after-dark setting.

Drawn to Nature with Jess McGeachin

Ages: Strictly for ages 7-10.

Stuck for ideas? Find inspiration in the natural world with award-winning illustrator Jess McGeachin.  Hear about some amazing animals and environments, learn how to capture ideas through writing and sketching, and discover practical tips for keeping a sketchbook.

Jess will also talk about his own connection to nature and what it's like working for a museum (and sometimes talking to the dinosaurs).

Adults do not require a ticket, but children must not be left unattended.
